Environmentalists Debate the Future of Nuclear Energy
On February 26, 2008, the Progressive Policy Institute held a debate in Washington, DC on nuclear energy titled, “Is Atomic Energy A Cure for Climate Change?” Our CASEnergy co-chair Dr. Patrick Moore was one of the panelists. The forum featured environmentalists debating environmentalists on the benefits of nuclear power versus the risks involved in generating it.  Co-chair Christie Todd Whitman spoke to WLW AM (Ohio) host’s Mike McConnell on August 21 about the coalition’s work. She debunks many of the myths about nuclear and addresses the changing views of environmentalists toward nuclear.
Christine Todd Whitman spoke on WDET’s “Detroit Today” on July 11, 2007, about her role as CASEnergy co-chair to encourage discussion about nuclear energy. She highlights the debate surrounding nuclear energy and demonstrates its clean air and environmental benefits. Additionally, she states the need for a diverse mix of energy sources, which includes nuclear power, as a way to meet growing demand.  CASEnergy co-chair Dr. Patrick Moore was on Washington Post Radio with Bob Kur on June 21, in conjunction with President Bush's visit to Browns Ferry power plant. The segment was entitled "Is it time to rethink nuclear power?" Dr. Moore stated that the "nuclear renaissance" stems largely from two main factors: climate change and energy security. Additionally, Dr. Moore spoke about his work with CASEnergy Coalition, and why he and Governor Whitman both believe so strongly in nuclear energy as a solution to our energy issues. Co-chair Christine Todd Whitman spoke on WJR’s “News Talk” in Detroit, Michigan on July 11, 2007 to dispel myths about nuclear energy and to discuss nuclear energy as a safe, affordable and reliable source of power in the summer months. She highlights nuclear’s ability to meet rising electricity demand and serve as a solution for climate change.
On July 11, 2007, co-chair Christine Todd Whitman was a guest on WSMN’s "Woody W oodland Radio Show" in New Hampshire. She participated in a talk show with a liberal and conservative co-host team, both incidentally supportive of nuclear. In fact, the co-host, Al Sprague, disclosed that he is a proud member of CASE, "gets the newsletter and Dick Swett was a former client!"
On July 11, 2007, CASEnergy co-chair Christine Todd Whitman called into WGIR’s morning talk program, the “Charlie Sherman Show”, in Manchester, New Hampshire to discuss nuclear energy in New Hampshire, particularly the Seabrook Nuclear plant, and the work she is doing with Patrick Moore as co-chair to spread knowledge about nuclear’s benefits.
On April 22, 2007, Dr. Patrick Moore, CASEnergy Co-Chair was interviewed by Worcester Public Radio’s The Public Eye. Dr. Moore discussed Environmental activism and stated that we have to change our habits toward nuclear power. We need sustainable development that supports our civilization and nuclear power is the way to do it. His comments on nuclear and how to reduce our environmental impact are very insightful.
